Dalmane
![]()
Dalmane is a brand name sleeping pill prescribed by doctors for the treatment of insomnia. Dalmane is in a class of medications called benzodiazepines. Drugs in this class slow brain activity allowing the patient to more easily fall and stay asleep. Dalmane comes in a small capsule, usually 30mg, and is taken as needed before bed. If the medication is working, the user will experience improved sleep within 7 to 10 days.
Dalmane Ingredients
Dalmane is one of the brand-names of a chemical substance known as Flurazepam. Flurazepam is a prescription sedative only available through a doctor. It doesn’t contain any other substances in significant quantities.
Dalmane Sleep-Inducing Effects
Dalmane (Flurazepam) is a prescription drug so it has been tested and approved by the FDA and that governing body found it performed its reported function of inducing sleep with acceptable frequency. Dalmane has been known to start working slowly or even taking a few days to become completely effective. It also tends to affect the users a few days after they discontinue its use.
Dalmane Side Effects
Most prescription drugs, especially those drugs with sedative properties, are likely to produce dependence. It is important to never take more than what is prescribed or for a longer period than is necessary. Benzodiazepine drugs alter the way your brain functions which is always a serious factor to consider. Any type of abuse could result in serious addiction or even serious medical conditions.
In addition to the obvious risk of dependence, the National Center for Biological Information lists the following as common side effects:
• Drowsiness
• Dizziness or lightheadedness
• Loss of coordination
• Headache
• Heartburn
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Stomach pain
• Diarrhea
• Constipation
• Nervousness
• Irritability
• Talking more than usual
• Weakness
• Joint pain
The following side effects are less common but would require emergency care:
• Rash
• Hives
• Swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, or eyes
• Hoarseness
• Difficulty breathing or swallowing
• Pounding heartbeat
• Chest pain
• Coma (loss of consciousness for a period of time)
I also want to include a statement taken directly from the US Government’s information site regarding this medication “You should know that some people who took medications for sleep got out of bed and drove their cars, prepared and ate food, had sex, made phone calls, or were involved in other activities while partially asleep. After they woke up, these people were usually unable to remember what they had done.” That speaks for itself but suffice it to say, you should be careful.
Dalmane Value
Dalmane is a prescription drug and the price will depend on your insurance coverage, geographical location and the availability of generic substitutes. The retail cost of Dalmane will range anywhere from around $20 to over $200. I can’t really make a recommendation since that is more a decision for a doctor to make but, as always, you should consider all your options before taking a prescription drug.
