Natural Calm Review
Natural Calm is a magnesium supplement. You might wonder why you need such a supplement; luckily the people at Natural Calm were nice enough to explain that on their official web site. Their basic premise for the need to take a magnesium supplement is the necessary balance your body must maintain between calcium and magnesium in the body. Natural Calm explains that magnesium and calcium are fundamental nutrients that need to be in balance with each other in order for you to “fully experience good health.” These two substances counteract each other to accomplish a number of tasks your body needs to perform. Calcium excites nerves, while magnesium calms them down. Calcium makes muscles contract. Magnesium is necessary for muscles to relax. Calcium is needed for blood clotting, but magnesium keeps the blood flowing freely, and so on.
Natural Calm Ingredients
There isn’t much to talk about here, Natural Calm is magnesium. Natural calm comes in a water soluble powder that Natural Calm claims will easily bond with water and be absorbed readily into the cells. The proprietary method of producing the ionized powder is a closely guarded secret but each 2 teaspoon dose contains 325 mg of magnesium. It is recommended you start with a small amount and increase dosage until you experience over-regularity as a result, although I’d recommend stopping before it gives you diarrhea.
Natural Calm Sleep Inducing Effects
This is not really a sleep aid but more of a relaxation drink. As you might imagine, sleeping while agitated could prove difficult, so a product that is supposed to help you relax could be helpful as a sleep aid.
Natural Calm Side Effects
It didn’t really surprise me to find that a number of people who took Natural Calm experienced slight to severe gastro-intestinal issues ranging from cramping to diarrhea. If your body ingests an over abundance of a substance to the point it can’t use it, the body will work to rid the substance as waste. Much like over indulging in any type of food, elevated levels of magnesium can cause the stomach to cramp or cause general intestinal discomfort. Although less common, some people have also reported muscle cramping. As the Natural Calm site explains so well, magnesium plays a vital role in the contraction and relaxation of the muscles. If this balance is thrown off kilter, muscle pain will often result.
Overall Value
A 16 oz. bottle of Natural Calm retails for about $38 but can be found for closer to $28 on most online retail outlets. Depending on how much you take, the company claims each bottle will last 14 to 16 weeks. The $28 isn’t extravagant but don’t forget you are only getting a spoonful of magnesium. The basic science behind the function of calcium and magnesium in the body is accurate, any high school biology student knows that, but making the leap from that fact to claiming flooding the body with magnesium will induce stress relief is a bit of a stretch without any independent research.
